Realms of Success self-evaluation

My focus in life is to always increase my positive impact on this world.  I do this by focusing my energies in concise directions.  Have you ever felt overwhelmed and frustrated by your lack of control over your life, yes? I haven’t, so you must suck!… No no, I’m just kidding, haha.

I divide life into separate realms so that I may better manage them.  This method shows me where I’m falling short of my personal goals.    What ever you expend your energy on is a realm.  Your energy includes, spending money, time, effort or thought.

You must devise a list of 3 to 7 realms, any more or less would suggest your problems my lie within the sheer quantity of realms.

For example, my realms are as follows:

Career realm

Non profit organization realm

Educator realm

Parent realm

Romance realm

Personal indulgences realm

Unlike paying off credit cards, where the proper way is to pay the minimum payment of all your cards except for the one with the highest interest rate, on that one you pay as much as you possibly can until it is $0.  In life we must multitask and pay down many debts at once.  But our money sometimes gets funny.  And our priorities may get mixed up.

I find the one commonality in all the realms is that success only comes from internal growth.  By feeding my soul with both external knowledge and internal reflection, I get the maximum power from each punch I through at life.  In my Realms of Success powerpoint lecture I explain how to incorporate my method in your life.

The first step to any solution is to first discover the problem.  It can bring calm to a storm filled life; it can bring clarity to chaos.  Realms of Success is a introspection of self that may assist you in developing a road map to peaceful satisfaction.

I have all of my Economics 4 students rate their own life to honestly look at themselves prior to critiquing the ills of society.  We create structural drawings of a self graded report card for our lives.  This is step one in understanding our place and position in this world.  From this point we are better positioned to make changes in our lives, as well as work for change in the lives of others.

Ten step Instructions:

1. Create spread sheet with 5 columns, entitle the top of each column respectively

REALMS, RATE, SUCCESS, TOTAL, GOAL:

2. In the Realms column, honestly list 3 to 7 realms of your life that consumes a significant portion of your energy, effort, thought, or money.

For example:

Career

Volunteer work

Parenting

Romance

Self indulgences (hobbies/habits)

3. In the Rate column rate each Realm from 1 to 4, 4 being most important to you.(do not rank them, they all could be rated a 4, or a 1…)

4. Label the third column SUCCESS, and in that column rate your current level of success in that realm.  From 1 to 4, 4 being most successful in your own judgment.  Keep in mind your success is not determined by others opinion of success, but what you want and expect out of yourself regarding that particular Realm.  If you planned on maintaining a 2.5 g.p.a. and that’s what you have, then your success may be rated at a 4.  This is a self evaluation, others peoples perspectives are not important to this exercise.  We must satisfy ourselves first.

5. Label the fourth column TOTAL.  Take the Rate of each realm and multiply it by the number in your Success column.

6. Sum up the total points in the TOTAL Column and place the total at the bottom of the TOTAL column.

7. Label the fifth column GOAL, in this column place the product of the RATE column times 4.

8. Sum up the total points in the GOAL Column and place the total at the bottom of the GOAL column.

9. Divide the total of the TOTAL column by the total of the GOAL column.

10. Create a bar graph as shown on the below link

THIS IS YOUR REALMS OF SUCCESS RATING.
