I enjoyed my time at the America I Am exhibit. As soon as you walk in you’ll see these amazing quotes by W.E.B. DuBois on the wall. The exhibit really does answer W.E.B. DuBois’ question, “Would America be America without her Negro people?”
Would America’s economy be what is today, without the free labor that we received from the slaves?

The narrators that you’ll meet really bring the exhibition to life! I like the Slave Ship gallery, and the last gallery the best. The last gallery shows a video of our past to our present and it summarizes our imprint that we’ve made in America. The narrator in the Slave Ship gallery mentioned that we could turn something negative into a positive by remembering that our ancestors survived slavery. We come from a line of people who endured and triumphed slavery. The best way to pay them back is to live our lives to the fullest, and to remember that we can endure all things. “We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.” - Phil 4:13 or “Yes We Can.” - Barack Obama :)

If you check out America I Am, also make arrangements to visit Road to Freedom (a Civil Rights Movement exhibit), and An Idea Called Tomorrow (a showcase of what a Civil Future looks like). Road to Freedom and An Idea Called Tomorrow displays are located next door to the California Science Center, in the California African American Museum, through March 7, 2010.
