Or is it? I’ve always thought that there was a huge price to pay for Ignorance.

You took it right out of my mouth Lady Bliss. There are terrible prices to pay for ignorance but jh is correct in it doesn’t cost you anything initially! Ignorance on credit

Makes sense, thanks Elisa.

It cost money, time and effort for education. It cost introspection to access wisdom. To ignore something may mean that you won’t pay (attention).

JH…Cost and pay are situationally relevant to the response of the being affected not the antecedent stimuli. Hence the effectiveness of response cost, operant conditioning, Skinner and Watson! If ignorance is the response cost to stimuli what is the antecedent stimuli? Perhaps that may aide us in our thoughts!!!! The ability to think beyond the palpable.

They say that there is an antecedent stimuli for every response. Could the incentive for ignorance be that it is sometimes viewed as “cool” in some cultures? (If that is what you meant by antecedent stimuli, Elisa) ????

Ignorance can also be used as a scapegoat to responsibility. No matter what, I still believe that someone is going to pay for it eventually.

This conversation is an example of antecedent stimuli. You were challenged, and through your leaned behavior to ask questions and seek an understanding, you live outside of ignorance. Yet some people have not been taught to be inquisitive for the sake of understanding (anonym to ignorance). Yet for those who do not seek, they do not understand (generally). To your point Lady Bliss, this can be a leaned behavior. So yes you both are correct in that a non-response (or not seeking understanding) is an operant conditioning that encourages ignorance.
Regarding the cost and payment, both must be realized by that person in order to be binding. Hence, if I don’t care if I have a house, and I’m homeless because I choose to not do what it takes to maintain a house, I only “pay” the cost if I value a roof over my head. Some homeless people feel free. This is why not all homeless addicts where addicts before they were homeless, some homeless people become addicts, to kill the thought of realizing how painful ignorance is.

Thanks AV.
Regarding being inquisitive – I’m use to getting on people’s nerves with my questions; thanks for making inquisitiveness sound so appealing. LOL
