NICE! we have lot’s in common!
Is a lack of motivation a disease, genetics, or just a state of mind?
Jareem, motivation can first be effected by bio-chemical imbalances in the brain. This can be caused by a developmental defect either pre or post natal. Yet most incidences are caused by one’s environment, where confidence was not instilled during childhood. If one suffers from the lack of confidence courage may lack. Lack of confidence usually derives from a lack of trials that lead to successes and are reinforced/praised by others. Trials in life that are suffered without someone their to help you dust of and encourage you to keep trying leaves one scared to leave his/her comfort zone for the fear of failure.
Being a rapper may be a comfort that will afford you to smoke, tat up and have a felony all while presenting a lifestyle that is pleasing to your young eyes. Those who travel the path of less resistance rarely travel any substantial distance.
When we were talking about racist people in America I learned that it depends on where you live at where you go places at and who you hang out with because all three examples can get you killed or mess up your mind and etc. We talked about the difference between racism and prejudice and talked about different ways to deal with them and not let them get in the way of what you want to get out of life. Thanks to all my new big brothers.
I had a good time with my fellow brothers at arms at the breakfast this morning. I thank all that came and partook in our discussion. I have a greater sense of understanding and community from it. The one thing that sticks in my mind is our conversation about Kiko. Kiko is a guy that I met last week at a party. Of the 20 or 30 guys I met, after meeting Kiko, I re -approached him and gave him my card. Since then we have exchanged e-mails through facebook. On his facebook he has a video of himself challenging his friends to go an entire week and say in their mind as they meet people “I love you”.
I’m not sure of his full purpose, but I believe this is the opposite effect that black men have displayed in the past that creates a macho facade build on tension. I pondered what we can be if we build bridges instead of walls between our brethren. We may find ourselves at a better position to support and hold accountable and reduce haterism. I will suggest this mindset on our next e-vite to see if it makes a difference. I will also extend an invite to Kiko for our next meeting so he may enlighten us.
