Jelisa Rashad Harris is my daughter? I am not the father!
I was recently served with a notice that a child support case has been reopened regarding my daughter Jelisa Rashad Harris. I have no idea who this person is.
Apparently Karen of Riverside is the grandmother of the minor and is receiving government assistance and as a condition of such aid she has to actively pursue support from the parents. I’M NOT THE FATHER, I SWEAR, I HOPE! The lady from the child support office advised me that the mother’s name is Leslie Rascell. “I have never heard that name in my life” I’ve never had a one night stand, and if I don’t remember the names of the women of the past, I’d at least recognize them when I hear them. Leslie just didn’t ring a bell. Thank God.
I am in the system due to the support I pay for my children, and Jermaine Harris is a popular name in the hood. If you do a google search of my name, you’ll get a bunch of athletes college stats (unfortunately none of my college football stats are posted); as well you’ll get a number of convicts and criminal cases. One of which may be the real Jermaine Harris in question in this child support case.
The lady on the phone said she’ll send me a mistaken Identity form and I’m to complete with a photo ID. Cross your fingers for me folks, my expenses may jump. The real injustice here is with Jelisa Rashad Harris, and her obvious lack of parental participation. I will keep Jelisa in my prayers as she represents millions of children that don’t feel the direct love and affection of their parents. The County child support office is a house of pit-bulls. They are on their job and that is a good thing for the children who are due financial support from dead-beat dads. If you are a very active father who is there for your children it can serve as a mediator that will handle the fund transfer from one parent to the other with minimal contact between the parties. In my case this unfortunately is a good thing. Yet the County child support office is overbearing even for me. At one time I was more than $2,500 overpaid on my support. These pit-bulls go after you until they get blood. For example, there was one month were I sent a check, additionally they garnished two of my jobs checks for the full amount, so I ended up paying three times as much as I was supposed to. Don’t think I’ve ever received a refund. Every year I have to fight them to not garnish both of my jobs and take double. Once that ball is rolling it takes hours on the phone on hold to get things straightened out.
The moral of this story is to not place your self in this predicament to begin with.

it’s mine i just said it was you. lol!
well, well, well. I actually have praise for the child support agency of california. Let’s see: they mistakenly reported to the credit bureaus that i was behind in my payments totalling $17,000 which was a total of spousal support and child support for a full year! the problem was that the support had been deducted from my paycheck every two weeks. when i called them to correct the issue, the idiot “pit bull”, as you referred, accidentally corrected the problem by adding to my report another $17,000!! so i pull my credit report and it says i am behind in support by $34,000!!! dizamn!!
so, as my plight continues, october 30th marked the end to my spousal support payments, i made a journey over to the support office off of slauson and eastern. i packed a lunch and dinner just in case i was there all day. though i received the preverbal run around on the phone for the past two weeks, surprisingly the officer i worked with today was extremely helpful, she stopped the spousal payments, updated my information, and cleared up the credit issue.
i have to say i was shocked, but left happy, and came home to eat dinner!
after sitting in the lobby for 3 hours, i do know that you have the right to request a DNA test. it’s just a cotton swab in the cheek and according to the advertisements and info-mercials it is free.
i recommend not sitting on the phone for 45 mins at a time to be put on hold again, just drive down to slauson and eastern, and remember to pack a lunch.
good luck brutha!
Update 1/6/08, the child support office sent me a letter stating that I am the person of interest and that they will continue to pursue my support for said child. GREAT! Despite me sending a photo ID so the mother can see if I’m the one that “knocked her up”, they still think I’m the father.
I call, call, call, wait, wait, hold…. Finally I speak with someone in the office. She advises me that the system shows that the mother never came to the office to view my photo so they have to procedurally continue the process until it is confirmed that I’m not “da baby daddy.”
She said that I’ll be served soon with a summons to appear in family court. At that time I can request a DNA test which they provide at no cost to me. Drama….
